When you get a new Android phone, you usually don’t have any of your text messages from your previous phone on it. However, many these messages are in MightyText! We recently added the ability to restore messages from MightyText to an Android phone. Here’s how to do it:
First, open the MightyText app on your phone and tap the triple dot icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Tap Restore Messages to Phone there.
Now, tap Restore Messages and choose how many messages you’d like to restore.
(If you’re on the free version of MightyText you can restore up to 100 messages, and MightyText Pro users can restore an unlimited amount)
If you’re running Android 4.4 or higher: Follow the prompt to change your default messaging app to MightyText (temporarily) and then messages will start restoring from MightyText to your phone.
When the process is complete, you’ll be prompted to change your default SMS app again.
Note: if you have messages on your phone which were previously synced to MightyText, those messages may duplicate.
Finally - only SMS messages will be able to restore back to your phone at this time. We plan on adding MMS (Group Texts and Picture Messages) to the restore functionality soon.
